Gang Prevention Efforts with the Calgary Police Service

The Calgary Police Service continues to address the increased violence and shootings in northeast Calgary through the involvement of several areas of the Service.Recognizing that this issue requires broader community support, education and awareness, YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre is launching Community Safety Presentations. These presentations will help educate and inform residents about how to keep their families safe in the wake of increasing violence in Calgary, help young people avoid high-risk lifestyles, and work together effectively as a community to address the issues.Further information about the presentations is available at https://youthlinkcalgary.com/gangs_education/.Media advisory:YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre Executive Director Tara Robinson, Ward 5 Councillor George Chahal and Calgary Police Service Acting Deputy Chief Cliff O’Brien will be available to speak to the media at 11 a.m., tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019.This availability will take place at the YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre, located at 5151, 47 Street N.E.Youth that are attending summer camps at the centre will also be present.Excerpts from an interview with a convicted gang member who shares the reality of what life is like inside a gang and how he recruited youth from Calgary, will also be shared with the media.
