Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020
April, 22, 2020 YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre is excited to announce it is going virtual to support families, youth and teachers. YouthLink Calgary is launching its first learning adventures by taking crime prevention, safety, and fun online at www.youthlinkcalgary.com and @YouthLinkYYC on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
“…It is inspiring and heartwarming to see our community working together to keep each other safe and healthy by staying home. YouthLink Calgary has changed directions to respond to the needs of families at a time when they need support during this public health emergency…” says Tara Robinson, Executive Director of YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre.
YouthLink’s programming is highly sought after by Calgary schools. Teachers registered more than 7-thousand students in six minutes for the 2019-2020 school year. For the rest of this school year, YouthLink is taking teachers and families behind the scenes (throughout our Centre and into our own homes), where we share our favourite at-home forensic science experiments, incredible policing stories, and critical information to help parents start important safety conversations with their children.
YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre is a non-profit, proudly funded by the Calgary Police Foundation, where crime prevention, community policing and education are at the heart of everything we do. We provide unique programming in partnership with Calgary Police and in collaboration with other community partners who are committed to building stronger and safer communities.
Some of YouthLink’s virtual offerings include:
- Cabin Fever Forensics
Easy-to-follow science experiments that will keep your kids busy while practicing techniques used by Calgary’s crime-solving experts. We also feature instructions for forensic activities using items in your own home, for example using strawberries to learn about DNA.
- Crime Prevention Conversation Starter Kits
With quality time at the forefront of our lives, we are on a mission to help parents start critical conversations with your children about mental health and today’s crime-related issues.
