Before the Conference
When and where is the 2019 International Police Museums Conference taking place? The 2019 International Police Museums Conference will be hosted at YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre (Calgary’s Police Museum), located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Where is Calgary and what should I know about the city? Calgary is a beautiful city of approximately 1.2 million people, located in the foothills of Alberta, just one hour away from the stunning Rocky Mountains. Currently Canada’s third largest city, Calgary offers quick access to world-class tourist destinations, such as Banff National Park and Lake Louise, and the city itself has fantastic museums, parks, restaurants, and cultural events.

I do not live in Calgary. What should I know about travelling to Calgary for the Conference? If you plan on flying to the conference, you will land at the Calgary International Airport (YYC). Non-Canadian residents (including U.S. citizens) will require a passport to enter Canada. Canadian currency can be purchased at YYC, however, exchange rates may be more favourable if purchased in your home country.
What airline should I fly to Calgary? If travelling to the conference from within Canada, Air Canada and West Jet are the primary airlines that provide service to Calgary. For those outside of Canada, most major airlines will provide either direct or connecting flights to Calgary.
What are the accommodation options available for the Conference? The Sheraton Cavalier is our partner hotel for the Conference. Discounted room rates are available. Please see the accommodations page for more details.
What are my transportation options from the Calgary International Airport?

Do I have to work in a police museum to attend the Conference? No. The conference is open to all museum/heritage/cultural professionals and students. The conference program will cover a broad spectrum of museum topics that will be of interest to anyone working in the museum/non-profit sector.
What is the refund policy? Participants and Companions may receive a full refund if cancellation is made before June 11, 2019 (14 days prior to the event start date). No refunds will be provided for cancellations made after June 10, 2019, or in case of no-show.

Is my registration transferrable? Conference registration may be transferred to another delegate prior to June 15, 2019.
Am I able to register for the conference at the venue at the start of the conference? No. You must pre-register by June 17, 2019 to attend the conference. No in-person registrations will be allowed.
Do I have to register for the entire conference? Can I register for individual days? You may register for one, two, or all three days of the conference. Pricing for the full conference or individual days will be available Feb 6, 2019.
Can I bring a companion(s)? Yes, we have a variety of activities and tours (costs apply) available for companions. Companions must be 18 years of age or older. Please click see the companion options for details.
Is childcare provided? No, childcare is not provided.
During the Conference
Where do I register when I arrive at the Conference? The registration desk will be located at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel and at YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre. Registration times:
- Monday 24 June – 6:00-9:00pm (Sheraton Cavalier – during Meet and Greet event)
- Tuesday 25 June – 8:00-9:00am (at YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre)
- Wednesday 26 June – 8:00-9:00am (at Sheraton Cavalier)
- Thursday 27 June – 8:00-9:00am (at YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre)
What are my transportation options during the Conference? Shuttle service (via bus or van) will be provided to delegates and companions by Conference organizers for transportation between the conference hotel, conference venue, and off-site trips on June 25, 26, and 27. A Shuttle service schedule will be provided to you in your registration package (sent closer to arrival date).
How do I gain entry to the Conference Sessions? All conference delegates are kindly asked to wear their lanyard and name tag at the conference and associated activities to identify themselves. Those Participating in the Companion Program are also asked to wear a lanyard as well as provide proof of purchase for each event selected (email confirmation).
How will I know if there have been any changes made to the program? In the lead-up to the Conference, small updates may be made to the program. Please check this website regularly for announcements about guest speakers and program details. Any changes to the program during the Conference will be announced at the beginning of each day’s sessions.
Can I photograph or record the Conference Sessions? Delegates are not permitted to use any type of camera or recording device during any of the sessions unless written permission has been obtained from the relevant speaker. A professional photographer will be at the conference, if you have any issues with being photographed please notify the conference organizers. You are more than welcome to take photographs inside the Police Museum (please share the fun by tagging us with @youthlinkyyc).
What is included in my registration? Includes all Conference sessions, museum tours, and social events on June 25, 26, and 27 (and registration meet n’ greet on the 24th). It does not include the optional tours/day-trips on Monday, June 24 and Friday, June 28. These tours and day-trips may be booked at an additional cost when you register for the Conference. After registering for the Conference and any additional tours/trips, you will receive a confirmation email which will provide your itinerary for the week.
I have special dietary requirements – what do I do? Please indicate any special dietary requirements when you register for the Conference. Caterers at each function will be informed of these. If you are unsure, please don’t hesitate to ask staff at the registration desk.
Liability and Insurance: By registering for the International Police Museum Conference, participants agree that YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre, the Calgary Police Service, and the Conference organizers and speakers do not assume any responsibility for injuries to persons or damage to property during the Conference. Participants are advised to take out their own health, travel and personal insurance prior to the conference. The policy should include loss of fees through cancellation of your participation in the Conference itself, loss of airfares for any reason, medical expenses and repatriation should travel arrangements must be altered.
