YouthLink Calgary School Programs

Policing & Crime Prevention Education

The team at YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre has been hard at work this fall creating new programming for students in YYC. Since students could not come to YouthLink, we are bringing YouthLink to students! Our new virtual program options provide resources for teachers that links to the Evidence and Investigation unit of the grade 6 curriculum.  Students will be able to step into the shoes of a real Calgary Police officer, while still learning important crime prevention information from our Safe for Life zones. As part of YouthLink Calgary’s solution to the COVID-19 pandemic, our resources are completely free to teachers.

Great prizes are available! Any class that participates will be entered into a draw with a visit from a CPS Specialty Unit!

At our core, is our strong commitment to changing lives through crime prevention education.

Each year, our YouthLink Calgary School Programs educates over 60% of Calgary’s grade six students, empowering them to make safe decisions when faced with crime-related pressures and challenges.

By providing the young people of Calgary with the information they need, when it matters most, we’re helping to keep our community’s children safe for life.

A Focus on Knowledge, Skills and Trust in Police

  • Forensic Science that unfolds during a life-like investigation with experiments and optional in-class lesson plans.
  • Crime Prevention delivered through high-impact presentations, true stories and exhibits that link to the Grade 6 health curriculum.
  • Behind-the-badge experiences that offer a true perspective on the important role police (and citizens) play in community safety.

Forensic Science Investigation: YouthLink

The Calgary Police Service has a mission that we need your class’s help with…

A crime has been committed in our city.

Your class is invited to lead the investigation.

Are you and your students up for the task?

Our free Virtual FSI program will take your class through a full police investigation. The entire program takes place within you classroom, but still gives students the opportunity to access authentic police information that you would have in the centre, and even exposure to CPS officers from various specialty units that we have never offered before. We’ll send you a package complete with lesson plans that connect to the Grade 6 Evidence and Investigation curriculum, videos, and step-by-step instructions to make your job easy. The activities allow students to hone their skills in observation, analysis, teamwork, inferencing and crime solving. On top of all that, it’s just a fun experience for you and your class.

Safe for Life: Live from YouthLink

We are bringing our Safe for Life Zones into your classroom! We will connect to you live to educate students on current intel straight from CPS specialty units. We share stories from real Calgarians to educate Calgary youth. These programs link to the Grade 6 health curriculum, including safety and responsibility, relationship choices and personal wellness.

Select a Safe for Life Live in one of four core areas:

Drugs: Prevention is the best defence. Get the facts, learn the consequences and discover healthy coping methods to avoid addiction.

Gangs: Dispel the myths about “riches” and “brotherhood” associated with criminal life. Get the intel on how gangs recruit young people and learn to avoid peer pressures.

Online Safety: Thanks to our partners at Shaw, learn the importance of mental wellness in an online world and how to build a safe social media profile.

Healthy Relationships: With the help of our partners at Enbridge, we start powerful discussions about healthy and unhealthy ways to deal with interpersonal conflict. Learn how to recognize red flags in unsafe situations, how to deal with conflict in a positive way and how to get help when you need additional support.
