YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre

We are excited to announce that YouthLink Calgary will be resuming in-centre programming in the fall! Registration for schools will open on August 16, 2021 at 9 a.m.

Led by Calgary Police Officers, a key element to the success of this program, is the opportunity for officers to build trust and lasting relationships with participating youth and teachers.

 

Who can apply?

  • Grade 6 classes only.
  • Max 33 students per class (1 class may participate in a Police School program at a time).
  • Schools experiencing a high call volume for police services or students at an increased risk of gang involvement, drug use or other crime-related behaviour.
  • Applying for Police School requires a more in-depth application form. If your class is not selected to participate in this program, your application will still be considered for the Police School Single Day Program as well as the Single Day Field Trip Program.

Applications for the 2020-21 School Year are currently suspended due to COVID-19.

Program Options

1. Four-Day Police School

Welcome to Police School, the most unique crime-prevention initiative in Calgary. Join two in-uniform Officers for 4 days of policing adventures and crime prevention.

Includes

  • A full day Forensic Science and Investigative Experience
  • All 4 Safe For Life Presentations
  • Presentations by a variety of CPS experts
  • Real policing experiences: to help build trust and understanding in police.
  • Exploration of the Police Museum
  • Optional in-class lesson plans that cover the Gr. 6 Evidence and Investigation Unit.

2. One-Day Police School

Spend an action-packed day with two in-uniform Police Officers. Get a behind the tape perspective on policing, take on exciting police challenges and learn from the experts about how to stay safe.

Includes:

  • A Forensic Science Adventure (2.5 hrs)
  • 3 Safe For Life Presentations (1.5 hr)
  • YouthLink’s Smart Decisions Workshop (20 min)
  • Exploration of the Police Museum (40 min)
  • Optional in-class lesson plans that cover the Gr. 6 Evidence and Investigation Unit.

How to Participate

Availability & Costs

Availability 

  • September-June, Mondays to Thursdays.
  • Each day is approx. 5 hrs (custom arrival and departure times available).

Costs 

  • FREE! This program is proudly funded by the Calgary Police Youth Foundation and is in partnership with the Calgary Police Service.
  • Transportation is provided (also funded by the Calgary Police Youth Foundation).

How to Prepare for the Application

Tip! Set a reminder in your calendar so you don’t miss out. You may also opt to receive a two-week email reminder by sending an email to youthlinkschoolprograms@calgarypolice.ca.

You will need the following information for your application:

  1. Booking Teacher info: first and last name, email address and phone number (the teacher in charge of coordinating your school’s visit).
  2. Number of students: The total number of students in each class.
  3. Class information: your schools goals for participation, special needs, crime-related or mental health challenges and pressures being experienced by your students or school. Applying for Police School requires a more in-depth application form.
