TEST YOUR STUDENT’S SOCIAL SAVVY

A full-day grade 9 field trip combining Social 9 review, crime prevention, and history. Developed in consultation with a Master’s level IB history and Social studies teacher, this program aims to expand students knowledge of the CPS, while reviewing key concepts and skills to prepare for their exam.

WHAT TO EXPECT

– Exploration of our cutting-edge museum
– Three hands-on workshops led by our YouthLink experts
– One complimentary workshop to take back to school, to further extend learning and PAT preparation.

Through this exciting new program, students will be challenged to interpret a variety of sources, both modern and historical, in our engaging museum spaces. This experience connects directly to the social curriculum with emphasis on skills and attitudes that will prepare students for writing their exam, while reviewing the content in an engaging and fun way. Students will participate in three hands-on workshops in this program, with the following themes: Repealing historical laws in Canada, the history of EDI at CPS, and interpreting Calgary’s gang war and the Youth Criminal Justice Act. 

The goal of this program is to provide the application of the Social 9 content to a new context- Reviewing social concepts in a new environment, through the lens of Police history and modern day practices, and community safety in Calgary.

Field Trip Details

Who Can Apply

Any grade 9 class located with Calgary City Limits.

Availability

April – June, Mondays to Thursdays. Maximum of TWO classes per day.

Program Training

Full-day program (4.5 hours). We are able to adapt this program to a 2.5 hour half-day program as needed

Program Cost

Transportation, and a program fee of $5 per student.
