Visitor Experience Specialist
Work Hours: 35 hours/week (Tuesday to Saturday)
Reporting to: Visitor Experience Manager
Status: Full time, Salary ($40,000 – $54,000/annually)
Position Details:
As the Visitor Experience Specialist, you’ll serve as the welcoming face of our organization—ensuring
every guest receives a memorable and meaningful experience from the moment they arrive. Stationed
between the front desk and the museum floor, you will serve as an ambassador for our mission and values
and assist with role out of public programming and coordinating gift shop logistics.
On public days, you’ll step into the role of guide and storyteller, bringing our exhibits and history to life.
You will create opportunities for engagement, spark curiosity, and help shape powerful moments of
connection between our guests and the museum.
Responsibilities:
Museum Visitor Experience and Front Desk Duties
Contributes to a positive and top-notch customer experience for all visitors to
YouthLink (adults, families, youth, seniors, etc.)
On public days, interprets the museum and its exhibits to the public alongside
YouthLink’s Visitor Experience volunteers.
Works at the front desk in the YouthLink lobby, answers phone inquiries,
receives and forwards messages left on voicemail, greets and welcomes guests
to the museum.
Works on the floor of the museum and delivers youth, family, adult and senior
activities and programs.
Delivers guided tours to specialty groups including donors and CPS members.
Under the direction of the Visitor Experience Manager, assists with
welcoming new staff and volunteers to the YouthLink team and supports their
training and onboarding experience in a positive and supportive manner.
Gift Shop Coordination
Assist customers with purchases including cash, debit, credit, or POS
transactions.
Handle opening and closing procedures of the gift shop, manage cash floats,
reconcile daily sales, and prepare sales reports.
Maintain inventory, restock displays, and support ordering and merchandising
tasks. This will also include researching various vendors and popular sales
trends.
Support promotions or themed shop displays, aligned with exhibitions or
special events.
Design and/or support in the design of gift shop apparel and conduct surveys
both with internal and external stakeholders to to gather feedback on design
concepts and assess purchase intent.
Special Events
You are curious, hard-working and love to collaborate with your team.
Assists in the development, set-up and execution of special events including
public day events, adult evening events, and historical/true crime presentations
as required
Program Development
Supports and assists the Visitor Experience Manager to create an annual and
monthly schedule of engaging public programs and themed events, that
aligned with YouthLink’s mission.
Support the scheduling, registration, space set up and supplies to ensure a
seamless delivery of public programming.
Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years of customer service experience and ability to engage
warmly with diverse audiences.
A minimum of 2 years of retail experience and competency with processing
payments, reconciling sales and handling transactions.
Familiarity with interpretive programming, visitor engagement, or working
with exhibits would be considered a strong asset.
Previous experience working with Microsoft Office Suite and possess
excellent organizational and written and oral communication skills.
Willingness to work weekends, evenings and special events as needed.
You are passionate about learning and sharing your knowledge.

This is a salary position working 35 hours a week, from Tuesdays to Saturdays.
