A full-day Grade 6 field trip combining education, crime prevention, and policing fun. Embark on an adventure that begins in your classroom and ends with a trip to YouthLink for hands-on application, built with the knowledge of real-world experts.
WHAT TO EXPECT
– Exploration of our cutting-edge police museum
– Learning through technology, and videos of CPS experts
– Hands-on activities and discussions about cyber safety
– Discussion and examination of relevant, current online threats and strategies to navigate them
In this brand-new program students will learn about privacy and security, building a safe online presence, and responding to current and age-appropriate threats and safety concerns such as extortion/exploitation, privacy, and harassment.
Through our YouthLink cyber activity platform, videos, and small group activities and discussions, and hands-on learning strategies, students will be immersed in the world of cyber safety, and learn how the Calgary Police Service is involved with dealing with online risks and situations, how they can be used as a resource, and the importance and proper steps for asking for help when faced with dangers online.

Who Can Apply
Any grade 6 or 5/6 class located within Calgary City Limits.
Availability
September – June, Mondays to Thursdays. Maximum of ONE class per day.
Program Training
Half-day program (2.5hours).
Program Cost
Program is FREE. The only cost associated with our field trip for the school/class attending is the transportation

Registration Details
We are only able to accommodate one class per day for this program. If you would like for more than one class from your school to attend the program, you will require multiple dates for the field trip.
For this year, designate one teacher to be the contact for your entire school. This teacher will be the primary contact to confirm program dates and details prior to your field trip.
Registration will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis on the registration date, August 18th. Registration must be completed through the application form that will be accessible on the registration date. Please note: the program fills quickly, plan to register right when registration opens for the best chance of receiving a program spot. Once registration fills you are welcome to join our cancellation waitlist that will be open throughout the school year.
To prepare for registration, please identify the following information:
The number of classes from your school that you would like to attend.
The estimated number of students in each class (please note we can only accommodate a maximum of 35 students per booking).
The months you will be able to attend a field trip in the 2025-2026, and any dates where your class will not be able to attend. We will do our best to schedule what works for you and your class, but due to demand of the program we may offer alternative dates outside your requested months to attend.

Can I bring my whole family?
Absolutely! Summer Safety Day is designed for families, friends, and community members of all ages. Whether you’re coming with toddlers, teens, grandparents, or just yourself — everyone is welcome, and there are no age restrictions.
Is there a cost to attend?
No— this event is completely free, including access to the YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre. We do welcome donations, which directly support YouthLink’s local crime prevention programs.
Will food be available?
Yes! Our friends at Co-Op are generously providing a free BBQ for attendees — while supplies last. Arrive early to make sure you don’t miss out.
Where can I park?
Free street parking is available near YouthLink. We recommend arriving early to secure a spot.
What is the Summer Safety Day Passport?
Each guest can pick up a Summer Safety Day Passport at the welcome table. Visit vendor booths throughout the event to collect stamps — then enter for your chance to win great prizes! It’s a fun and interactive way to explore the day and learn about safety.
Will this event still happen if it rains or snows?
Yes — rain, shine, or even snow, Summer Safety Day will go on! The event includes both indoor and outdoor activities, so we recommend dressing for the weather.
Why should I register if it’s free?
Registration isn’t mandatory, but it helps us prepare — especially when it comes to food, passports, and seating for presentations. By registering, you help us ensure a great experience for everyone.
Can I explore the exhibits inside YouthLink during the event?
Yes! All attendees get free access to YouthLink’s interactive exhibits, including scavenger hunts, forensic displays, historic policing tools, and real crime stories. It’s a hands-on experience that turns every visitor into a detective for the day.
Are there activities for younger children?
Yes! There are activities suitable for all age groups, including scavenger hunts, meeting Simon the Safety Bear, and visiting with our VAST trauma dogs. The entire event is designed to be family-friendly and fun for everyone.
Will there be first responders on-site to meet?
Yes! You’ll have the chance to meet Calgary police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and more. It’s a great opportunity to connect with the people who keep our community safe.
