Revisiting the 2025 CPS Crime Prevention Poster Contest Award Ceremony
On May 22, 2025, YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre celebrated nine remarkable students whose artwork stood out in this year’s Crime Prevention Poster Contest. The event recognized young creators from across the city who used their artistic talents to explore what safety looks like in their daily lives.
The contest welcomes participants from kindergarten through Grade 12 and centers on three key themes: personal safety, home safety, and community safety. Winners are chosen from each school level, elementary, junior high, and high school, ensuring a wide range of voices and ideas are represented.
Instead of traditional grading, judges focused on originality, clarity of message, and the personal meaning behind each submission. The resulting collection of posters revealed how young people view awareness, responsibility, kindness, and community connection as essential parts of preventing crime and supporting safer neighborhoods.
Created by members of the Calgary Police Service, the initiative helps CPS better understand the issues that matter most to youth. The themes and stories expressed through the artwork offer valuable insight into how students experience safety at home, online, at school, and in their communities.
Each winner received technology prizes and gift cards, along with a professionally framed copy of their poster featuring a commemorative Calgary Police medallion. The winning pieces are now on display at the YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre for visitors to enjoy.
More than an art competition, the contest highlights the thoughtful perspectives young people bring to conversations about safety and community well‑being. Their creativity and insight continue to shape how Calgary approaches crime prevention, one poster at a time.
