Safe for Life Field Trip
Safe for Life Education Through Investigation
A full-day Grade 6 field trip combining education, crime prevention, and policing fun. Embark on an adventure that begins in your classroom and ends with a trip to YouthLink for hands-on application, built with the knowledge of real-world experts.
WHAT TO EXPECT
– Exploration of our cutting edge police museum
– Hands-on workshops led by our YouthLink experts
– A real Calgary crime to solve that involves youth
This one-day crime prevention Grade 6 field trip, directly connected to the Grade 6 Health and Life Skills Alberta Curriculum, guides students through our four Safe for Life zones, Drugs, Healthy Relationships, Cyber Safety, and Gangs. Students will participate in hands-on activities and authentic discussions, and learn about real-life issues and skills in each of the four topics, with the goal of inspiring the youth to make safe decisions as they navigate the transition to Junior High School.
Police perspectives, safety strategies, and roles in the community are a vital component of this program. Students will be lead through the experience as investigators. They will be solving a crime as they navigate the evidence, meet the suspects, and use their learning in our S4L areas to crack the case.
